Beyond ALS Documentary Film

José Cofiño and Ben Trust are on a mission of which triggered the birth of beyondALS.org, a site to not only raise funds for research but also to provide a forum for support to all affected by Lou Gehrig’s disease and with an open door to share their stories. To maximize the impact, José has been speaking at numerous events to spread the word by sharing the realities behind the disease as well as his journey in overcoming adversity prior to his diagnosis. He continues to bring people together from all over the world, inspiring them, helping people to understand and appreciate the true value and quality of life.
José is also currently the 3rd patient of over three hundred volunteering in the first ever IPS stem cell clinical research program (Pmp program) at ALS TDI in Massachusetts. The program’s ultimate goal is to find a treatment to stop, slow down, and to cure ALS. The film will follow the research program’s creation of José’s stem cell line and monitor any progress by testing several thousands of drugs against his cells – to see if there is any response to these medications. The research program’s objective is also to unveil some of the many mysteries in the cause of the terminal disease.
The documentary aims to raise awareness and to inspire those currently living with ALS that there is hope for a cure. The film will educate audiences across the globe and will shed light on not only the challenges and the hardships but also the triumphs and the passion to find a solution to go beyond ALS.
